While most merchants settle credits daily, when you see a credit to your balance may vary depending on the merchant. Ask the merchant when you should expect to see a credit. Additionally, some Mastercard merchants will allow you to get cash back when you use your card and PIN to make a purchase.

Do I have the option to request overdrafts on my card?
No. The Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard does not allow purchases above the spending balance on the card.
Do some merchants get authorization to charge more than the actual amount of a purchase?

As with any card program, when the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard is used for certain kinds of transactions, the merchant accepting the card may request advance authorization for an estimated amount of the transaction. This is usually because the final purchase amount is not known at the time you present your card. For example:

  • Gas Stations will accept the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard to prepay for fuel inside the station, but "pay at the pump" purchases may be authorized for an amount greater than the gas purchase. Fuel purchases made at the merchant’s inside counter are most often authorized based upon the consumer’s desired final purchase amount.
  • Restaurants, hotels, and car rental agencies may get authorization for an estimated purchase amount, rather than the actual purchase amount.
What is an Authorization Hold?
An “Authorization Hold” is a temporary hold on the funds available on your card for the amount of that authorized transaction. An Authorization Hold generally will be released within 3 business days after the date the transaction is authorized. However, certain merchants, especially rental car companies, hotels and others that authorize high dollar amounts may cause an Authorization Hold to remain in effect for an extended period of time. You can see each Authorization Hold on the funds available on your card at any time by calling 1 (855) 978-7011 or logging in to the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard website. Certain transactions may be handled differently by certain merchants. If you are unsure of a merchant's policy, it is best to ask before using your card.

Budgets and Savings Goals

How do budgets work?

The Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard app tracks your first 30 days of purchases, puts them into spending categories, and then automatically suggests budget amounts to help you manage your spending. You can always add, delete, and edit the budget categories and suggested amounts.

With the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard app, you can easily see if you’re spending within your budget or at a rate that is below or above your estimated budgets.

Will my Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard get declined if I go over budget?
No, transactions are not declined based on budgets. Budgets don’t affect your ability to make purchases as long as you have enough in your card balance. Budgets are intended to provide you with helpful information about your spending habits.
What are the goals I see in the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard app?

You can set goals to automatically set money aside for larger purchases or to plan ahead. Using the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard app, set up a goal to automatically transfer money from your spending balance towards the goal as frequently as you want. While funds are held as part of a goal, they aren’t part of your available spending balance.

Once you reach a goal, you can either transfer the money into your bank account (ex. if your goal is for emergency funds that you want to keep in a savings bank account), or if you’re goal is a purchase that you’re going to use your Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard for, you can delete the goal to transfer the money into your available spending balance.

Are the goals funds in a savings account?
No, the funds are still in your prepaid card – they just aren’t in your Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard available spending balance.
How do I get the funds from goals back into my available spending balance?
You can move money out of your goals balance back to your available spending balance at any time using the Care.com Money Prepaid Mastercard app by selecting “Savings Goals” from the main menu, selecting the goal you want to transfer funds out of and “Transfer Balance.” When you delete a goal, the money that was saved to the goal moves back to your available spending balance.
What happens if I delete a goal?
When you delete a goal, any money that was saved to the goal is moved back into your available spending balance. Also, any automatic transfers that were set up to fund the goal are discontinued.
What is the emergency fund and how to do I use it?
Your account’s emergency fund is a type of goal that you can use to put money aside for emergencies. Unlike goals, your emergency fund doesn’t have an end date.  You can add money to this fund at any time – either with a one-time transfer or a specific amount daily, weekly or monthly. While this money is separate from your spending account, it’s always accessible if you need it. Choose the option to reset your emergency fund to transfer that money back into your spending account.
